The pillars of prosperity

Our Economic Prosperity Agenda focuses on four essential pillars that make prosperity real for families and communities.

Housing

Every family deserves a safe and stable home where they can thrive.

A home is more than a fixed structure — it’s where children grow, elders are cared for and memories are made.

The solution

Housing

Reform land use and zoning to remove barriers.

  • Economic impact: Closing the Latino homeownership gap in 10 yrs creating 2.9m homeowners, representing 9.8m people growing wealth over $650 billion.
  • The need: The Nogales, Arizona community identified a gap of 1,000 homes.
  • What worked: Cross-sector collaborations united to address the city’s shortage of starter homes. Through a pilot program, public, private, nonprofit and community stakeholders approved an initial subdivision of 32 homes.

Workforce

Every worker deserves a good job that pays fairly, offers room to grow and dignity.

Too many workers are stuck in low wage jobs with unpredictable schedules, few benefits and little voice.

The solution

Workforce

Raise the federal minimum wage to at least $17.

  • Economic impact: Delivering roughly $70 billion in additional annual earnings and stimulating local economies through consumer spending.
  • The need: Roughly two-thirds of Americans support raising the minimum wage. More than 80% of Latino voters support raising the minimum wage to $17 an hour or higher.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Everyone deserve the freedom to start their own businesses and pursue their dreams as entrepreneurs.

Yet too many entrepreneurs are turned down for loans, charged higher interest rates or are left without support and guidance.

The solution

Entrepreneurship

Expand access to fair capital and small business loans.

  • Economic impact: Latino-owned businesses are among the fastest-growing segments of U.S. entrepreneurship. Expanding access to capital can unlock billions in revenue and job creation.
  • The need: More than 80% of voters support federal government investments in small businesses.

FAMILY SECURITY

Working families should have the means to provide for one another — including access to quality health insurance — without being pushed into financial crisis.

Prosperity means knowing that your family comes first and the economy will not punish you for it.

The solution

Family Security

Expand and restore a fully refundable Child Tax Credit.

  • Economic impact: The expanded Child Tax Credit lifted millions of children out of poverty, reducing hardship among Latino families and injecting more than $230 billion into the economy annually.
  • The need: 7 in 10 Americans (and 7 in 10 Latinos) support improving and expanding the Child Tax Credit.
